Internal Deadline:
Faculty nominee names into OVPR: August 29, 2011
Letter-of-Intent form to OVPR: September 16, 2011

BYI Deadline: Letter-of-Intent received by Beckman: By October 3, 2011
Full Proposal: By invitation only
After a two year hiatus, the Beckman Foundation has reissued the Beckman Young Investigators (BYI) Program with some changes. The first change is that the program is no longer limited in the number of letters-of-intent they will be accepted from a single institution; therefore, a downselect is not necessary. However, no more than one candidate from a single institution will be selected for the award in any particular funding cycle.
The Foundation requires a signature from the Institution President or Provost on the letter-of-intent; therefore, Office of the Vice President for Research will work with each interested faculty to secure this signature and return the form to the faculty for submission by the deadline.
The BYI Program is intended to provide research support to the most promising young faculty members in the early stages of academic careers in the chemical and life sciences particularly to foster the invention of methods, instruments and materials that will open up new avenues of research in science. The BYI Program is open to persons with tenure-track appointments. Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. at the time of application. To be eligible, an applicant should not have completed more than five (was three in the past) full years in his/her tenure-track appointment.
