John Iceland, department head and professor of sociology and criminology at Penn State, was recently elected vice president of the Population Association of America (PAA) by his colleagues. His term officially begins January 1, 2017.
Iceland's research is in social demography, poverty, residential segregation and immigration. He is the author of three books on these issues and is currently co-editor of the journal Demography, chair-elect of the Population Section of the American Sociological Association, and previously served as an elected member of the PAA Board of Directors.
The PAA is a non-profit, scientific, professional organization that promotes research on population issues.
