Internal Deadlines:
Notice-of-Intent: February 7, 2014
Internal Materials to OVPR: February 21st at Noon (If needed)
Proposals Due to NSF: April 29, 2014
Institutional Limit: Three lead proposals
NSF has issued the 2014 SRN solicitation. The program is limited to three lead proposals from a single institution; therefore, we are conducting an internal downselect. If a faculty team in your college/unit plans to submit a proposal for the internal downselect, please have them complete an online notice-of-intent by February 7, 2014. The form can be accessed at: https://www.research.psu.edu/limitedsubs/notice-of-intent. Teams will be informed of the next steps in the downselect process by February 10th.
The goal of the Sustainability Research Networks (SRN) competition is to bring together multidisciplinary teams of researchers, educators, managers, policymakers and other stakeholders to conduct collaborative research that addresses fundamental challenges in sustainability. The 2014 SRN competition will fund research networks with a focus on urban sustainability. Please see full solicitation for “Characteristics of Urban SRN’s”. http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=503645.
Proposals should identify an ambitious and nationally important theme in urban sustainability, present a creative and innovative research agenda that builds upon existing work in this area, and describe how a network of researchers and other stakeholders will be supported that integrates a variety of disciplines, sectors and backgrounds in order to create new perspectives and yield significant new understanding and knowledge. Proposed SRNs are expected to be multi-dimensional with regard to "disciplines" and address fundamental issues that are likely to yield significant new understanding and knowledge. Typical budgets are expected to be $2-3M per year over 4-5 years and not to exceed $12M total.
