The Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) is announcing a call for proposals for its Faculty Fellows program to support faculty members in the social and behavioral sciences at Penn State.
The program provides release time for faculty members to acquire new knowledge and research methods from other disciplines to take their research in new directions. “We are interested in supporting new research programs that align with our mission: to foster research that addresses critical human and social problems at the local, national, and international levels,” said Joshua Smyth, associate director of SSRI.
Priority will be given to proposals that address SSRI’s strategic aims: social disparities; personalized health; influences from the genome to the globe on human behavior, health and development; innovative approaches to research design and data collection, security, and analysis; and best methods for translating knowledge into policies, programs, practices and products.
There are two types of fellowships: Mentored Fellowships support an individual faculty member to work with a scholar from another discipline and gain new skills; Collaborative Fellowships provide funding for a new team of faculty members to develop a novel, interdisciplinary research program.
The program is available to Penn State faculty members and established research scientists in the social and behavioral sciences at the University Park campus and the College of Medicine at all career levels. The alternate avenue of support for Commonwealth Campus Faculty is the OVPR Research Collaboration Fellowship, also supported by SSRI.
Over the past eight years, the SSRI Faculty Fellows Program has supported 37 faculty members located in 12 departments across five colleges and continues to make significant contributions to the institute’s research portfolio at Penn State.
The application deadline is Oct. 17. More information, including the application process, can be found at the SSRI Faculty Fellows Program website.
