Susan McHale, Director of the Social Science Research Institute, was named a Penn State distinguished professor by the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. The honor is awarded to active full-time faculty members who are acknowledged leaders in their field of research.
Dr. McHale, in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, has been a leader in the social and behavioral sciences at Penn State for more than 30 years. She has directed the SSRI since 2007, overseeing a significant expansion of the Institute during this time. Her research focuses on family relationships, specifically sibling dynamics and the roles of children and adolescents. She received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
