Nilam Ram, Associate Professor of Human Development & Family Studies and Psychology, received the 2015 Margaret M. and Paul B. Baltes Award on behalf of The Gerontological Society of America. As noted on their website, this Society-Wide award recognizes early career contributions to social and behavioral gerontology. This distinguished honor, given annually, recognizes outstanding early career contributions in behavioral and social gerontology. Individuals who have received their doctorate within the last ten years are eligible. The award is given by GSA in conjunction with the Margret M. and Paul B. Baltes Foundation.
In receiving the good news, Nilam noted, “It is an honor to receive the Baltes award. Paul and Margaret were former faculty of HDFS here at Penn State, and instrumental in pushing forward the field of lifespan development. Thank you so much to the society for supporting our continuation of their work.”
The Gerontological Society of America is “the oldest and largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to research, education, and practice in the field of aging. GSA’s principal mission — and that of our 5,500 members — is to advance the study of aging and disseminate information among scientists, decision makers, and the general public" (Geron.org).
Virginia Suitor, Manager of Awards, Fellowship, and Governance, at The Gerontological Society of America has recently contacted Ram to congratulate him, “We are thrilled to have you as the award recipient for 2015 and thank you in advance for sharing your expertise with us in 2016.”
Nilam Ram is an Associate of the Penn State Population Research Institute.
